Cathy Moro's "Family Traditions" Exhibit

“I grew up in a small town 60 miles South of St Louis, called Ste Genevieve, MO.  Family traditions were strong.  I remember watching my mom sew, cook, garden and take care of the house.  My fondest memories were learning how to embroider quilt blocks, then make them into quilts.  The quilts were not for show, but to keep us warm during the winter months.  I learned to embroider as early as 6 years old.  The patterns were simple but fun, usually dogs and/or cats.  As I grew up, I got away from sewing/quilting as life had me on the move.  But at the age of 30, I knew something was missing and wanted to get back to what I enjoyed.  I took a quilting class while living in Vermont and that was it.  I started making quilts from patterns, then moved to PA.  I got a job at Ladyfingers Sewing Studio in Oley, PA.  I worked and taught a few classes.  I also met some amazing quilters like Jane Townswick.  I was published in her book and numerous quilting magazines.  I also designed quilts from new fabric lines for Andover Fabrics.  But, the commercial side of quilting was too much.  I enjoy sewing, creating and making quilts, ornaments and crafts in general as it brings me back to some of the best memories on my late Mom and Grandmother.” - Cathy Moro
