Artist Talk with Zak Foster

  • Southeastern Quilt & Textile Museum 306 Bradley Street Carrollton, GA, 30117 United States (map)

Spend part of the afternoon with us and current exhibit artist, Zak Foster, as he talks about the quilts and textiles in Southern White Amnesia, a powerful textile exhibition examining how white American families pass down—or deliberately forget—stories about their role in slavery and its ongoing legacy. This collection emerges from a belief that our ancestors might still have work to do—and that we might be the ones meant to help them do it. Like other artists examining inherited trauma and unaddressed histories, these works suggest that the past isn’t finished with us yet.

Foster is a community-taught artist whose work draws on Southern textile traditions. His work has been featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and on the Met Gala red carpet. He is the author of "The World Needs Your Next Quilt" and hosts the Quilty Nook community. Visit his website to learn more: https://www.zakfoster.com
